In Apollo, Catalina Swinburn reimagines ancient architectural memory
through a contemporary, performative lens. Printed directly onto a
fragment of travertine marble—material historically tied to classical
construction—the image presents a collage derived from archaeological
documentation of the Temple of Apollo.

Swinburn’s work often explores ritual, cultural displacement, and the
politics of preservation. Here, the fragmented structure becomes both
symbol and surface: the stone carries the weight of history, while the
photographic image recalls a vanished sacred space. The act of collage
becomes a performative gesture, one that reclaims, assembles, and
reactivates memory.

Through this evocative layering of image and material, Apolo invites
reflection on how civilizations are remembered, reinterpreted, and
ritualized in the present.
