Massinissa Selmani Algerian, b. 1980
Framed : 72,5h x 89,5w cm
Massinissa Selmani presents a new installation shaped by the idea of ellipsis, entitled Une parcelle d’ horizon au milieu du jour [A Plot of Horizon in the Middle of the Day]. His project is designed as a large-scale drawing presenting the migration of his drawn forms from one medium to another, from paper to animated film, from sculpture to mural drawing. With a touch of gravity, absurdity and humour, the ensemble puts into perspective the idea of crossing and horizon, of fictional territories in situations of conflict. The artist draws on press photographs without revealing their sources or context; the elements seem familiar without being situated, inviting the viewer to solicit his own reminiscences and visual references.
Some of the works are augmented by words or fragments of text from the poems of Jean Sénac, the Algerian poet assassinated in 1973 in Algiers.
