Whispers on the Horizon - 14th Taipei Biennial Catalog

curated by Sam Bardaouil and Till Fellrath

The 14th Taipei Biennial 2025: Whispers on the Horizon, curated by Sam Bardaouil and Till Fellrath,  explores the notion of “yearning” as a collective and personal human condition, connecting memory, identity, and a search for belonging.

Monia Ben Hamouda continues her exploration of the languages and symbols within Islamic art canons, engaging with  themes of identity and fragmentation, and cultural heritage and memory

She presents Untranslated Fragment I and Untranslated Fragment II (both 2025), two sculptures carved from beige Thala marble that are partly inspired by ancient artefacts such as the Rosetta Stone. The artist alludes to ‘prehistoric’ art forms, such as cave paintings and pieces of marble carved with a language that has yet to emerge. She suggests that language itself could be treated as a sculptural material, adaptable to fit our diverse cultures.
