Exhibition Overview
Zineb Sedira’s work Sunken Stories (2018) is currently on view as part of In Absence and in Presence: Works from the Sharjah Art Foundation Collection, presented at Aranya Art Center Guangzhou.
Bringing together over 70 works by 28 artists, the exhibition marks the largest international presentation of the Sharjah Art Foundation collection in Asia. Curated by Omar Kholeif, it unfolds across painting, sculpture, photography, video, and textile, offering a layered exploration of artistic practices shaped by movement, memory, and transformation.
Sunken Stories (2018) — Zineb Sedira
Sedira’s practice traces histories of migration, exile, and circulation. In Sunken Stories (2018), fragmented models of traditional wooden boats—dhows—are suspended in resin, evoking interrupted journeys and the layered legacies of trade and displacement across the Arabian Sea. The work reflects on the fragility of passage, where objects of navigation become suspended relics, held between memory and material history.
