Massinissa Selmani will present two works, including 1000 Villages, first exhibited at the 56th Venice Biennale. His drawing-based practice revisits the history of the “socialist villages” project launched in Algeria in the 1970s, examining how this moment was narrated through press imagery of the time. The work reflects on a memory that persists unevenly—largely absent from certain collective narratives, yet still vivid for those who experienced that period.

The 25th Biennale of Sydney, titled Rememory, is a major international art festival and the largest contemporary art event of its kind in Australia. This year’s edition takes its title from the work of celebrated author Toni Morrison, exploring the intersection of memory and history as a way to revisit, reconstruct, and reclaim the past.
