Sharjah Biennial 15 featuring an installation by Malek Gnaoui and Ala Eddine Slim

The 15th edition of the Sharjah Biennal, curated by Hoor Al Qasimi, opened its doors Tuesday 7th of February in the city of Sharjah, United Arab Emirates.
Malek Gnaoui presents "…عن", created with Ala Eddine Slim. A continuation of the work presented at the Dream City Festival in Tunis, Tunisia, the project delves into the auditory memories of ex-inmates of the Tunisian prison system. The installation immerses the visitor in the prison through various sounds recreated by ex-prisoners, from music to discussions to other auditory stimuli. Zendali, Tunisian prison songs manifesting sorrows and desires of prisoners, are heard through phones that peer into prison cells.
"The project ...عن is an installation emanating from the Tunisian prison universe through speech in all its forms and expressions. It is the memory narrated, reported, reconstituted, imagined, hallucinated… by ex-Tunisian inmates through different eras."
