Filwa Nazer Saudi, b. 1972
Born 1972. Swansea, United Kingdom
Lives and works in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia
Filwa Nazer began her creative journey as a fashion designer and graduated from Milan’s Marangoni school of Fashion and design. Her work revolves around exploring emotional and psychological identity within spatial and social contexts. The multidisciplinary visual artist employs textiles, collages, digital prints, and installations as mediums to delve into the ever-evolving boundaries between public and private spaces. Drawing on her experience in the fashion industry, she crafts textile sculptures and geometric embroideries that evoke deconstructed clothing patterns and architectural drawings.
Nazer’s work has been shown in several international institutions and biennials, including the Asia Pacific Triennial (2024), Brisbane, Australia; State of Fashion Biennale (2024), the Netherlands; DESERT X, Al Ula, Saudi Arabia (2024); Middle east Institute, Washington; La Biennale de Lyon (2022), France; Diriyah Biennale (2021), Diriyah, Saudi Arabia; Saudi Modern, Jeddah.
Her works can be found in prominent public collections, including the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, UAE; Saudi Ministry of Culture, Riyadh; the Al-Mansouria Foundation, Jeddah; the Jameel Arts Centre, Dubai; and the Greenbox Museum of Contemporary Art from Saudi Arabia, Amsterdam as well as numerous private collections worldwide.
